A day of ideas and information for anyone concerned with buildings - those who design them, build them, live in them or work in them.

I will be doing a talk on:
Natural Earthen Finishes: Earthen plasters, paints, sculpting furniture etc.
This talk will introduce the possibilities of working with earthen finishes. The subjects explored will range from sculpting your own furniture, to bread ovens, hot tubs and clay floors. We will also be looking at a variety of different clay mixes used for sculpting, plastering and making clay paints.

New Natural Building Courses for Summer 2009

Straw Bale, Earthbag, Earthen Plasters, Paints,cordwood...

60 km from Warsaw in Poland

Located in a forest with existing structures that include a small load bearing straw bale house and an earthbag dome covered in slats. The site also has a camping field.

1-3 May - Earthbags - domes and arches.

4 May - Earthen plaster plastering the earthbag dome.

8-10 May - Survival building a shelter, eating wild plants, basic hygiene, basic natural medicine, making a sweat lodge.

20 km from Olsztyn in Poland

On a new site surrounded by forest and meadows, no facilities except camping, but accommodation available 1km away.

5-8 June - Earthbags - domes and arches. Hands on and theory. Taught by Jarema and Paulina

9th June - Earthen plaster plastering the earthbag dome.

12-14 June - Building with Straw bales. Hands on and theory. Taught by Jarema and Paulina

15-17 June - Clay plastering Sculpting, clay paints, straw/clay as insulation, making 1cm thin partition walls.

Lake ‘Hancza’ North-East Poland

The site is located on a beautiful hilly meadow, with forests and lakes, existing structures include an unfinished post and beam load-bearing straw bale house, a small earthbag dome and straw bale bus shelter. A camping field with very basic facilities is on site and accommodation is available 1km away.

3-5 July - Survival (building a shelter, eating wild plants, basic hygiene, basic natural medicine, making a sweat lodge,)

9-12 July - Earthbags - domes and arches. .(hands on and theory) (taught by Jarema and Paulina)

14-16 July - Clay plastering, sculpting, clay paints, straw/clay as insulation, making 1cm thin partition walls.

19-20 July - Introduction to cordwood and wattle and daub.

Possibility to stay on and volunteer on this site.
